You think she might be pregnant? You may be feeling alone and confused; not knowing how to support her or what your role is. We understand that this is a confusing time for you as well. She does need your support, both emotionally and physically, during this time, and we are here to help you through that. Here are some tips to help you understand what she is going through and how you support her.
You SHOULD…
Take a Deep Breath: Staying calm is crucial. Now more than ever, she needs you to be strong and to be a calming presence.
Listen: You both have a lot of emotions going on. Listening to her and making sure she feels heard is important. Remember, this pregnancy is about three lives now.
Communicate: Talking to each other and to your support system is essential. Avoiding the topic or hiding it from others may cause you more stress and anxiety. If you don’t have friends or family you can talk to, you can find an open group of people at New Life who won’t judge you or pressure you.
Understand Your Options: Find someone you trust, get the facts and understand what your options are so you can make the best decision for you, her and the baby.
Be Honest: Your feelings do matter and it’s normal to have emotions like fear or anger. Speak honestly all while making sure you remind her that she is not alone.
You SHOULD NOT…
Run Away: The more you run from this, the harder it becomes to think and act clearly.
Pressure Her: Applying pressure will only push her away, possibly into a regretful situation. Work together as a team.
Think You’re Not Important: You have a very active role in this situation. Listen to input as well as give your thoughts.
